Anthony P. (Tony) Hodges, Director

During his 34 year career in the securities industry, Tony has acquired wide experience in securities markets, merchant banking and investment management. He began his career with the AMP Society in 1973, spending five years in the General Investment Department gaining experience in all areas of equity investment, accounting and analysis. Tony also gained wide experience in corporate lending, credit assessment, and underwriting.

In 1978 Tony transferred to AMP Morgan Grenfell, working through all areas of merchant banking and treasury management. Tony specialised in fixed interest securities and consequently was appointed Manager, Off-Shore Securities, Chase AMP Bank Ltd.

Tony joined IOOF in September 1985, as Head of Investments, when the Group was some $450 million in assets. He was responsible for the establishment of IOOF’s investment capability and oversaw the growth of the Investment Division to some $4.0 billion, managed by a team of investment professionals which became the cornerstone of Perennial Investment Partners.

Tony was a founding director and shareholder of Perennial Investment Partners, a specialist wholesale investment manager with some $20 billion of assets under management today.

Throughout his career with IOOF, Tony has also headed IOOF’s Retail Funds Management operations with responsibility for product management and distribution. Prior to his current position, Tony was Head of Group Strategy, during a period of IOOF’s demutualisation and listing, and the acquisition of AM Corporation assets of some $5 billion.

In 2004 Tony was appointed a director of IOOF Holdings Limited, an ASX listed company with some $32 billion of funds under management.

Tony is also an executive director of a number of IOOF Group companies and is Chairman of the IOOF MIM Investment Committee.

Tony has extensive experience in establishing and managing successful investment management teams.

Tony was involved with the Securities Institute of Australia for some seventeen years as a principal lecturer in the subjects of Applied Portfolio Management Theory, and Interest Rate Markets and Risk Management, and served for ten years as a founding member of the Economics Savings and Tax Committee of IFSA, the peak association body for the $1.4 trillion funds management industry in Australia.
